# Creating a questionnaire

Every portal questionnaire you work on is also a questionnaire in ResponseHub.
When you open the extension you can pick up one you have already started, or
create a new one for the portal you are looking at.

## Why the questionnaire matters

It would be possible to answer a portal by hand, one box at a time. Creating the
questionnaire in ResponseHub is what gives you everything else:

- Questions can be [assigned](/questionnaires/questionnaire-items/) to the
  colleagues who know the answers
- Approved answers can go
  [back into your knowledge base](/questionnaires/updating-kb-after-questionnaire/),
so the next portal is faster
- You keep a proper record of what you told this customer, and when

## Create a questionnaire

1. Open the extension on the portal page.

2. Select **New Questionnaire**.

3. Fill in the details.

   | Field | |
   |---|---|
   | **Title** | What this questionnaire is — usually the customer's name |
   | **Description** | Optional context for your team |
   | **Deadline** | When the response is due |
   | **Portal URL** | Filled in for you with the address of the page you are on |

4. Save.

The questionnaire is created in ResponseHub straight away, and appears in your
list there marked with a yellow **Portal** badge so it is easy to tell apart from
questionnaires that arrived as files. Opening it in ResponseHub shows the portal
address and an **Open portal** link to get back to it.

**Pick up where you left off:** The extension lists your existing questionnaires as well. When you come back to a
portal, select the questionnaire you already created rather than starting a new
one.
