# Getting started

Everything you need to get ResponseHub working for your organisation, from
starting a trial to answering your first questionnaire.

## Your trial

ResponseHub starts with a **seven-day free trial**. You enter a credit card to
begin, but your card is not charged during the trial.

At the end of seven days the trial converts into a paid subscription unless you
cancel. You can cancel at any point during the trial from
[billing](/managing-your-account/billing/).

<Aside type="tip" title="Charged by mistake? We'll refund it">
If you meant to cancel and forgot, contact support at
[support@responsehub.ai](mailto:support@responsehub.ai) and we will refund you.
No questions asked.

## Setting up your organisation

Once your trial is set up, onboarding walks you through the rest. None of it is
permanent — you can change any of it later.

1. **Organization Profile**

A set of questions about your organisation: how you work, the kind of work you
do, and who your customers are. ResponseHub uses this to tailor answers and to
judge which questionnaire questions apply to you.

Fill it in as well as you can — it is worth the time, and you can
[come back and edit it](/managing-your-account/profile/) whenever things
   change.

2. **Upload Policies**

Your policy documents become [sources](/sources/what-are-sources/), the
material answers are drawn from. Upload up to 10 files at a time, and add more
   later as you go.

Access control, information security, disaster recovery and similar policies
are the ones that do the most work. See
[what are sources?](/sources/what-are-sources/) for what else is worth adding.

3. **Preferences**

Set your organisation name, whether answers are written in US or British
English, and how your organisation should be referred to in answers. See
   [account settings](/managing-your-account/settings/).

4. **Generate Knowledge Base**

ResponseHub can build you a starter
   [knowledge base](/knowledge-base/what-is-the-knowledge-base/), working out
which questions apply to you and answering them from the policies you just
   uploaded.

You can skip this and come back to it later.

### Choosing a knowledge base template

Three sizes are offered. **We recommend Essential — 60 questions** for almost
every organisation.

| Template | Suits |
|---|---|
| **Essential — 60 questions** | Almost everyone. Covers the ground that comes up most. |
| **Medium — 200 questions** | Larger, security-focused organisations |
| **Large — 389 questions** | Organisations with a dedicated security team |

The larger templates are comprehensive, but comprehensiveness has a cost: they
generate far more items than most teams can review properly, and unreviewed items
tend to be deleted or ignored later. They suit organisations with people whose
job is to answer them well.

Generating takes a few minutes. When it finishes, the items are **Auto Answered**
or **Needs Input** — none of them are approved yet, and
[only approved items](/knowledge-base/knowledge-base-items/) are used to answer
questionnaires and RFPs. Working through and approving them is the next job.

<Aside type="note" title="You don't have to wait">
An unapproved knowledge base doesn't hold you up. You can
[start a questionnaire](/questionnaires/start-a-new-questionnaire/) straight
away and it will be answered from your sources.
</Aside>

## Invite your team

Add the colleagues who will work on questionnaires with you. Inviting sends them
an email to set up their own login — see
[invites](/managing-your-team/invites/).

### Roles

Everyone you invite gets one of three roles:

- **Admin** — full access, including billing and managing people
- **Member** — full use of the app, but not billing or account settings
- **Viewer** — read-only, plus the ability to ask individual questions. Viewers
  are free and unlimited

Viewers suit anyone who needs to look answers up without doing the work of
filling questionnaires in — customer success and account executives, typically.
See [roles](/managing-your-team/roles/) for the full breakdown.

## Questionnaires in a portal

If a customer sends you a link to their own portal rather than a spreadsheet, the
[Chrome extension](/chrome-extension/getting-started/) brings ResponseHub into
the portal so you can answer it in place.

## Getting help

Contact [support@responsehub.ai](mailto:support@responsehub.ai) with anything —
setup questions, a portal the extension struggles with, or a billing problem.
