# Updating sources

A source is a snapshot of a document at the point you imported it. When you
issue a new version of a policy, replace the source: delete the old one and
import the new file.

You need write access to your account to update or delete sources.

## Replace a source with a new version

1. Go to **Sources** and select the source you are replacing.

2. Select the delete icon at the top of the source panel.

3. Import the new version of the document.

See [importing sources](/sources/importing-sources/) for the full procedure.

Once the new source finishes processing, ResponseHub updates your knowledge base
and any open questionnaires that relied on the old document. For what that
involves and how long it takes, see
[what happens when sources change](/questionnaires/when-sources-change/).

## Delete sources

You can delete sources one at a time or several at once.

**One source.** Open the source and select the delete icon at the top of the
panel.

**Several sources.** In the sources table, select the checkbox beside each source
you want to remove. A bar appears at the bottom of the screen showing how many
are selected — select **Delete** to remove them all.

**Deleting is always reversible:** Every delete in ResponseHub is a soft delete — nothing is destroyed straight
away. A notification appears immediately after you delete something, with an
**Undo** link that restores it. Once that notification goes, the record can still
be recovered: contact support and they can restore it for you.
